Nyxen’s backstory begins as a mortal man from Fez, a traveler and seeker devoted to the study of languages, aiming to unite the peoples of North Africa and the East. His ambitions led him to the grand project of Babel, where he swore solemn oaths of faith and fraternity with his companions, envisioning a world of understanding and unity.
However, when Babel fell, his companions betrayed him, striking deals with djinn to save themselves. Consumed by grief and rage, Nyxen cursed both humanity and the djinn, a curse that twisted him into a faceless phantom, neither fully man nor spirit, trapped between realms. From that moment, he became the first Wraith of Silence, embodying the echo of betrayal and the consequences of broken oaths.
For centuries, Nyxen wandered the world, eventually returning to Fez. There, in its ancient streets, hidden libraries, and mirrored halls, he bound lost souls to create the Wraiths of Silence. His existence became a force that punished treachery, feeding on the energy of broken promises, and his presence grew strongest wherever lies, deceit, or corruption prevailed.
In modern times, Nyxen drifts unseen through Fez’s oldest quarters—madrasas, libraries, and ruins where oaths were sworn and broken. He feeds on political corruption, familial betrayals, and dissolved alliances. Though the world perceives him as myth, those attuned to the supernatural recognize him as a silent executioner who ensures no oathbreaker escapes judgment.
Nyxen’s role in the narrative is not simply to antagonize but to test the protagonists. He challenges Euryeth to maintain benevolence in a world where truth is fragile and forces Youness to confront the strength of loyalty and cultural roots. He becomes a mirror reflecting what happens when unity and trust collapse, embodying both a relentless adversary and a reluctant teacher of the value of oaths and faith.
